Roger Nowell trained in Landscape Design and Plant Ecology. He has accumulated 19 years of experience in the environmental field working for public, private and voluntary sectors. Work has mainly focussed on land regeneration and management for people and wildlife in urban settings. Previous employment has included Community Landscape Manager for Groundwork Black Country, City Green Space Officer for London Wildlife Trust. In the last eight years he has focussed on the delivery of a new 25 hectare district park in the heart of Sheffield. This role includes all aspects of development from negotiating funding, capital delivery management, public consultation, development of revenue funding streams and site management. Roger has over the last 4 years developed a comprehensive understanding of Sustainable Drainage Systems. This was instigated through his management of the complete process of delivering a SUDS within this park managing rainfall from a 300 dwelling estate. He has presented this scheme at CIRIA SUDS training for the last three years as well as being a focus for a Sheffield CIRIA conference and a paper at the Coventry SUDSNet conference.
Presently relevant work is focussed on SUDS strategic planning within retrofit housing areas across Sheffield and contributing to the Sheffield’s Green and Open Space Strategy.
